A Trip to Trader Joe’s: Southern Belle Simple Favorites

DSC04217

Knoxville’s new Trader Joe’s store opened recently and after shopping there in Nashville and Atlanta, I have been so excited to have a TJ’s in my own neck of the woods.

The southern beau and I popped in on Sunday and I thought I’d share some of my favorite Trader Joe’s products (and hopefully you’ll share some of yours too!)

DSC04218

Trader Joe’s Lemon Curd – This stuff is heavenly…it’s wonderful over pound cake or biscuits. I’ve also been known to eat it straight from the jar. If you like lemons, you’ll love it!

Trader Joe’s Valencia Peanut Butter – This crunchy, savory spread has roasted flaxseeds for an extra bit of flavor. I consider myself a peanut butter connoisseur and I think this might be the best I’ve ever tasted.

Trader Joe’s Dark Chocolate Mint Creams – Think Junior Mints, but way better. I keep these in the fridge and attempt to eat only one when I need a little bite of something sweet.

Trader Joe’s GIANT White Beans – If I had to choose one TJ product that was my all-time favorite, it would have to be these beans. They are huge lima beans in some kind of Greek tomato sauce and they are sheer perfection. I first heard about them from my pal BethEats when she shared a recipe on her blog combining them with pesto and goat cheese. De-lish! Before Trader Joe’s opened in town, I would buy several jars of these every time I went to Atlanta and then try to ration them out until the next trip.

Trader Joe’s Margarita Mixer – This is my favorite margarita mixer and when I served it to my family, they loved it too. It’s not syrupy like some of them and it has no artificial flavors.

The store was kind of a circus, but I guess that’s to be expected for awhile since folks are just so excited to try it out. Do you have a Trader Joe’s near where you live? If so, I’d love to hear about your favorite Trader Joe’s products. I probably won’t do all my grocery shopping there, but I’m sure I’ll be stopping by occasionally for my favorite things.

Happy Monday! Hope your week is terrific!

  1. My very favorite is Salsa Authentica (with the yellow lid). Just the right amount of heat, and it's not chunky (I don't like my salsa chunky!). Like you and the white beans, this is what I stock up on when I visit ATL. Good thing the Knoxville store has opened, as we opened our last jar of this over the weekend :)

  2. I am SOOOOO jealous of you Knoxville folks and your new TJ's. Memphians have been begging for a Trader Joe's to open here for years ... sigh. Maybe, one of these days, they'll realize they're needed over here in West Tenn too. I always stock up on TJ's stuff when I'm in Nashville.

  4. Oh all that looks so good! I can't wait until Savannah gets a TJ! We're just now getting our first Whole Foods, and we already have a Fresh Market!

Haven't yet been to our new TJ's in Knoxville, but I intend to go this week. Kate, thanks for posting your favs because I sure don't want to miss the tried and true good stuff! We have friends in Dayton, Ohio and Atlanta that have bragged about their TJ's (especially the Two-Buck-Chuck wine that we can't have here in Knoxville). So happy they decided to open a store here. Let's support it!

  6. My family used to always get the chocolate-covered coffee beans and I would always get their fresh pizza dough. Hope they carry these items here in the Knoxville store...

  8. I so wish we did have a Trader Joe's close by. I know there is one in Cincinnati, but I'm not sure if Indy even has one. I have heard great things about the store though. We don't have and IKEA or COSTCO close either. How do we poor country folk survive?

It's the girls' second day back at school and my first morning to myself in what seems likes months. Trying to catch up with everyone's most current posts and tell everyone I am still among the living, at least in spirit ;-) Hugs!

  9. I love the Trader Joe's gigante beans. Serve with some Greek chicken kabobs and a salad. Perfect!

  10. Thanks for sharing your favorites; I will definitely have to check them out! I love TJ's, but it's just far enough away from me (in ATL traffic, at least) to keep me from going on a regular basis. Maybe I should squeeze in a trip today...

Here are my fave TJ products:

    —Coffee ice cream
    —Frozen stir fry mix
—Hazelnut milk chocolate candy bars (o.m.g.)
—Pappardelle (only place I can ever find it)
    —frozen Spinach artichoke dip
    —Champagne Pear vinaigrette

  11. Haven't tried that lemon curd, but will be purchasing the next time I'm at TJ's!

They used to carry some tomato chutney that I was absolutely addicted to and then they discontinued it :-(
